I still wonder (after 27 years) how this shadow ever formed... I barely had the time to see it and shoot it, it appeared and disappeared in no time... The witch/goblin following people outside the bank!

Yet it's not entirely! ...The contour you are saying is a part of it, the rest is combination... I am still puzzled to work it out how the effect appeared! Look at the rest of the shadows... you can see the "body language" is totally different... You are obviously right for the head of the "witch" shadow formation though...Hi, Theodoros,
It is from the rightmost of the figures in the shot (slender person in a dark coat).
The contour of the wall (with the "cove" distorts the shadow of the head).
Cute effect!
Best regards,
Doug
Thanks for your "brilliant" Michael... when it comes from you it's ...at least important. The shot is brilliant.
I think you saw it already - the explanation is rather simple. The head of the witch is obviously the shadow of the head of the person seemingly followed. The top of the head is in the brick wall, the part which is the furthest away, the brim is a small part of th wall which extends the furthest from the bricks and the face is from a part which is les far away from the bricks. The rest is the angle of the sun and the angle from where you were shooting.
Best regards,
Michael
No Asher... you've got it wrong, It's a bright Saturday morning in Wales UK... The two men in front of the shadow are walking at a fast pace and at constant distance with the wall... I first shaw the head formation because of the cove on the wall (that was 5-6 yards earlier) and lifted the camera, framed, focused and followed the scene through my FM-2's VF... then the shadow body of the "witch" formed ...and I shot the picture. It all happened fast but it was like slow motion in my mind... it still is "slow motion" whenever I recall my memory on the happening. There's no single source of the light. Was this in the evening? A passing car with headlights could give the unique shadow.
