Film: Nelson Mandela & William Booth Statues...

Here is William Booth, a British Methodist preacher who founded The Salvation Army, and became it's first General. Here he is missing a bus...eternally so. :)

...and here is the statue of Nelson Mandela, with his suggestive arms and Big Ben...

William Booth - condemned to missing the bus?:) The outstretched arm is key of course. However, the foliage is a little ditracting to me. Perhaps you could burn the top left corner a bit? Again, the overal tonality you're getting is nice.

Nelson, nice humorous shot. The twig intersecting his head is a bit irritating. Rather than cloning the image, this is a good opportunity to get out there with a pair of secateurs and improve reality.

Thanks for that input, Mike. I take on-board what you say. In regard to William Booth's hand it looks more lost amongst the foliage in this re-sized image. Also, your right about a little gardening in regard to Nelson Mandela's image...haha

Hi, Mike,

The twig intersecting his head is a bit irritating. Rather than cloning the image, this is a good opportunity to get out there with a pair of secateurs and improve reality.
If one is very tall - otherwise, perhaps an averruncator!

Best regards,

Doug

A tech question, how to constrain the fire to only "the top left corner" of the tree?

Seriously, I agree with Mike in making the stretched arm more noticeable in the William Booth photo. I wonder if in another time during the day the sunlight illuminates the statue in the opposite direction?

I like the play of associations in these Statues series, they spark our imagination and makes us re think about these historical icons or discover them in a motivating way. Context is a powerful tool.

Ruben, I try my best in breathing a little life into them by photographing them like this. A third element always makes a difference, which could be anything in the end of the day.

I think it maybe a case of coming back here in winter, because the Mile End Rd. at this point, doesn't get much sun on it due to the thick trees on both sides. They're all London Planes which were planted a thousandfold a long time ago, on London's streets to soak up all the pollution, which they do, better than any other tree. Cheers.
