Fahim,

Why is a feminine shaped figure the guardian? I thought of this as I've just watched the Cirque de Soleil in which there were dancers from this region. The young women were about 5' 2 inches and had very round wide gynecoid pelvises as in this guardian figure. Most athletes we see in the USA seem to have a more linear, less curvy shape.

Thanks again for your documentation of wonderful places for us!

Stuart, Asher..thanks for stopping by.

Stuart, this is from a temple ( a UNESCO nominated site ) in Bali. A deity from the Balinese Hindu culture.

Asher, I am unable to answer your query re: the figure being a female guardian!. There is always a name and a legend/story associated with religious deities in this region. More than this, all I can tell you is that
it was hot and humid. I sought the sanctuary of my car and hotel for a well earned lunch and siesta.

My routine in Bali was to get up before sunrise and by 0800 hrs I was back asleep. Afternoons was the Spa, massage, manicure/pedicure ; the mundane things in life you know. Before sunset I was out roaming
the region with my camera. Dinner in different places. I do not keep late nights. Age has its priorities!!

Regards.
