Wolfgang,
I wonder how the Pirates huff from authorities or were they the local army?
I like the white stone as well as the new concrete.
Hi,
in former days the fjord of Furore (Costa Amalfitana, Italy) was used as a hideaway by pirates ...
The big pirates of the Mediterranean were the Knights of King Richard, "The Lionheart" of Robin Hood fame. They had a fort in Bodrum and were supposed to give hospitality and medical care to knights on their way to the Holy Land. However that business was slow and they had a small fleet of ships with fine Rnglish canons so, for want of something better to do than growing olives or fishing, they were resourceful. The waters near their and by Greece, Cyprus and Malta were plied by Arab trading vessels overloaded with goods. So the Brits helped lighten their loads!
That in short was piracy, but no "Jolly Roger", skull and crossbones, LOL!
