My World: Postcards from China.

I hope you received my postcards.

I went to Guilin for a couple of days. In the Guangxi province. Then a trip down the Li river by ferry to
Yangshou.

Guangxi is considered to be one of the most scenic provinces in the PRC. Yangshou is now a very touristy town. The main street is West street. But the locals refer to it as ' Western ' street..for obvious reasons.
Although inward tourists did at least equal the others.

But not for me this cafe, bars, cacophony of music, neon, and shoulder to shoulder throngs of humanity.

I stayed in a very small hamlet..about 25 kms out of Yangshou. At night crickets. and frogs were the only sounds I could hear. And see fireflies.

In the mornings, woke up to a nearby farmer playing the flute. Sound of birds. Clouds. Mountains, and the Yulong river. And all around me, green and mist and clouds..

The view from my balcony. The famous Karst hills of Guangxi.

I have run out of postage stamps. Not of postcards. There is no post office nearby. It is a very small rural part of China, where I am.

Thank you for being with me on this marvelous and eye-opening journey for me.

Thank you Cem. Glad you received the postcards.

Just to end.

Remember I mentioned that I had lost my iPad in a restaurant at Xian airport.

Well it so happens that Ayesha, whose flight was after mine, had also searched for it. And so did our guide, a lovely person, Bruce. They told security. And my wife went to Tibet, and I went down South.

We, each of us, met up in Beijing after a couple of weeks in pour hotel in Beijing.

The reception handed me a package, with my iPad in it. What more can I say.

Thank you for having received my postcards.

Wonderful to hear of your travels and meeting so many wonderful people. How is the air to breathe? Is it just bad in the very large cities?

Glad you got your iPad back. That's phenomenal!

Asher, I did not find signs of the air pollution that so many people talk about. I was told that in large cities,e.g Beijing, there are months when the weather combines to make it smog filled.

Suffering from COPD, I would know!!

Often, we are fed a continuous diet of news from the same sources...for all things..and we start to accept this as a fact. At least for me, a visit to the PRC, sent a lot of what I had been fed out of the window.

Best.
