Road Riting

I know - it is spelled "writing" - but that's my title.

There is lots of construction going on in our small town - updating to fiber optics plus some other services being upgraded at the same time. Every sidewalk and street is marked up with measurements and notations. It's kind of surprising that we started going metric in Canada, in 1970 - - - and yet as can be seen from the writing here, servicemen are obviously still on Imperial measurements.

So I decided to walk around tonight and grab 9 shots with my E-PL1/Holga, to include in a composite image.

Hi Rob,

That's a nice result from your stroll. It is indeed telling about a larger story behind what we see, and the multiple images tell that the use of imperial units it is not incidental. I also like the composition, thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Bart

Thank you all. I had many content options on the streets - but tried to pick ones that would work well. I too like the balance - with the red and yellow colored ones on each side as accents to the plain concrete and white lettering of the others, and diagonals pointing in at the top - the question mark in the middle - the foot measurements on each corner - and then the matching set of smaller number with the swoops going out in opposite directions. I find this piece appealing enough that I will have to frame it as a wall piece I think - - - square frame.

I love the central photo - really ties everything together. Can't help but feel perplexed by all the numbers surrounding it so the theme works very well.

It appeals to the analytical part of me - what's going on here, there? What's meant to be under the question mark?
