The wee laddie Rowan is my 3rd grand child. He is a vibrant 4. I forget what the trouble with the nose was but it was minor.

I was wondering whether or not you advised him to hit the girl backl!

This is a beautifl photograph. What an enjoyable piece of glass. I'd have thought it was LF!

Of course, few will know what on earth that lens might be, let alone how it came to be mounted on your Nikon! I gues this is the little soft focus wonder you got a month or two ago. How did you attach it?

Thanks Asher. The lens has a Leica thread I believe. So this one just has a thread to Nikon F adapter. You tell the Nikon it's f4 and it will do the rest. I used it quite a lot at a little wedding party my daughter and I donated the photos for. On rear curtain / slow with the flash it was really a treat.

So, Jim, did the folk notice anything special or are they so used to this kind of image by now?

What were these lenses designed for originally?

Jim;
I've looked at this image several times since you posted it, trying to concisely decompose what I find rather captivating about it. Here's what I've concluded.

1. Gesture and expression. That subtle head tilt and Rowan's solemn, actually rather stern, expression are eye-stoppers. As I see the midday sun I realize he's squinting in the glare. But it seems that he wants to be somewhere else and grandpa is being a pain in his ass with the camera. It's excellent.

2. Nose Band-Aid. Just a touch of mystery, even to grandpa.

3. Big head. That 90-degree pose, Rowan's small upper body and his protruding ears make his head appear just slightly abnormally large. This accentuates the effect in #1.

4. Dark shirt. A white tee blasting fill up wouldn't work as well. I must say, however, that I'd consider cropping the shirt's chest design. Maybe, maybe not. Not sure myself.

5. Soft focus. It's slightly distracting but in this case it creates a feeling between candid and formal.

Nicely done.

Thanks to all and especially to Ken for taking some time with this. My most important critic hated this picture. My wife. Ce La Vie.
