I have had the chance to visit the Sail Amsterdam this year; a 5-yearly event which brings more than 80 tall ships, naval ships and replicas from all around the world to Amsterdam for 4 days. This is a huge public event with more than 1.5 million visitors in total. At the start of the event, the participating ships all sail into the Amsterdam harbour. They are greeted and accompanied by thousands of local boats/ships, small and large. It is a sight which should be seen in person to be truly understood. But I'll still do my best to provide an impression by sharing my pictures with you here. We were lucky since we could visit good friends of ours who live at the top floor of a building which is right at the mouth of the harbour. Needless to say, generous as they are, they had a lot of visitors that day. We went up to the roof which provided an excellent view. I have used the Pentax K3 Nicolas has kindly lent me and I have attached the 70mm/2.4 lens (105mm equivalent on a 35mm sensor/film) on it. It has remained on the camera during the majority of the parade.
