I can not imagine not having a car? Even the years that I was in NYU's school of photography (Tisch) in NYC and lived in NYC (many years ago...1994 ish)... I still parked a car in queens in a garage for the weekend when I wanted to "get a way"

Cheers, joe

I don't know transports in NYC but here, in France, there are plenty of public transports and especially in Paris : tramway, underground, suburban trains, buses... You can go everywhere quite fastly. It is much easier than with a car : my last car staid 99% of time in a garage so i decided to sell it. When i need a car, i hire it. I think car is a very cultural thing, not especially necessary in everyday life. For instance, i go at work by walking : 20-25 min between home and office, very good for health and for mind ;)

I didn't have a car for the first year or two I was in Los Angeles. It's doable, but annoying. I just like driving to much! Fortunate for me, I live near some nice mountain/canyon roads :-D
