I've been doing a little wondering about macro lenses lately and ended up browsing photozone.de comparing the Sigma 150 and Tamron 180 macro lenses (review links can be found at the end of the post).
To summarize the reviews:
Sharpness: Sigma excellent / Tamron very good
Chromatic Abberation (CA): Tamron excellent / Sigma very good.
However, in the final analysis, the Tamron comes out on top with a 4/4 starts vs. Sigma's 4/5 stars for Optical Quality (there must've been a rating methodology change at some point). I assume the Tamron's superior rating is due to its better CA control.
All that to ask, what are your opinions on the relative importance between Sharpness and CA control? I know CA is easily "fixed" in post processing, but does it effect nuances in the image and do you lose much if anything in the fixing? Why do you think photozone would possibly weight CA control higher than Sharpness?
One final question, should I just write photozone and ask?
Thanks for your thoughts!
Sigma 150 2.8
Tamron 180 3.5
