I like the proportions with the generous sky and still an important passage for the waters to take us through the gap in the mountains to a distant mountain range in the clouds and mist. Somehow, this rises above "pretty" and "postcard", or maybe I am indeed a sucker for the magical places and am far too sentimental!
I'd address the intense and irregular blue color of the sky and pull that back a bit and also consider almost splitting the distance between the mountain on the left and the top of the image and crop away the top portion. That makes the sky more impressive. But then, am I steering the image towards a postcard shot and if so, so what!
I'd love to hear Ken's take on this! Still, no matter what the opinions are, this picture deserves to be seen on its own! Thanks for sharing!

I must admit I like this and want to revisit, but I can't help wondering whether or not color was needed, necessary or even helpful! This picture's remarkable value is I think in the delicate clouds from billowing to wispy threads vanishing into the sky. All this delicate creation contrasts with the hard lines and fine paths of the edges and trails in the ice and snow-covered mountains. So why not go where such characteristics have their strenth and that has to be B&W! I took the liberty of reprocessing your image and I hope you forgive the trespass!

I keep coming back to the sky with the Lake/sea and mountains - thanks for that - I can almost feel the clouds breathing - taste the air.. I do like the B&W version as well... and the sun feels like it may be falling from the sky in desert (dessert) image and about to roll on the horizon.

Asher: I would never consider this a trespass, by you. I like the BW version..the sea, clouds, mountains...but I like the color of the sky!!!. Go figure.

Awesome and sobering!
Such formations, seemingly around a central source of energy, intrigue me. They conjure up ideas of very powerful, even angry goings, on beyond our comprehension and control. It's as if this is a window to the power of the heavens! Interestingly, some pictures of galactic clusters taken from the Hubble Space telescope can look like this too. It's just a matter of scale.

Winston: As others have mentioned...Stunning. I am drawn to it, into it. Ominous and beautiful at the same time. The colors! The Columns leading to the epicenter ( ? ) beckon me.

Hi Sandrine,
There's drama in the skies with some increase contrast, saturation and then cropping a little to de-emphasize the land somewhat.
However, the clouds seem to be defying gravity somehow. So I wondered if this rotated view is more accurate.

Sometimes the colours catch your eye at first time then you can't consider having the colours washed off, you're unable to see the lines, the objets etc... This image looks great as you made it, thanks! I'll make my own version to see if I can challenge you (as always)

No, not dramatic, just a nice blue sky without any HDR or excessive PP.
The sort of sky you can gaze at for hours on a summer day without getting a headache.
Lazy Sunday afternoon, I've got no mind to worry,
close my eyes and Drift away,
Close my eyes and drift away.
And why on earth would anyone want to turn it grey?

To you all...thank you.
In the interest of full disclosure I must tell you that I have replaced the image. This one is almost the same except that it does not have the terrible stitching error that the first one had. I have no idea how we all missed it. It was right in the middle. The mystery is why it was there. The stitching was done at the sides.

Winston, your photo is WOW. Whether you stiched it, cooked it, baked it, it is WOW. You like it, I like it.
That's all that matters. Let others debate how you did it.
More importantly, I applaud your integrity. It says a lot about for you.
Stay well and show me some more 'stiched ' WOWs, please.

Some skies I could watch for hours without a headache.
Simple sky: ( Nothing really: just sky, except my wife got in the way ):
A little daring perhaps, for some:
Sometimes, I can't help the sun going down; but still simple..could watch till nightfall:
Something I could watch for days without a headache; come to think of it I did. It was a view from my balcony:
Next time I will let my imagination run wild and maybe show something more vibrant and spicy. I prefer my skies with a dash of Tabasco and Middle Eastern herbs. Not Flaccid.

I had a dream. I was in an alien world. The land was alien. The sky was alien. My imagination ran wild:
I thought about the land and the sky in shades of gray. I thought about Wratten filters. I don't know why? They must have had a purpose. I don't know where I could use them. Then I woke up.
These are skies that impressed me. I have seen other skies. They too have impressed me. More than my skies. But then I live on land, not in the sky!

I forgot one that I love so much...
I was taken while the Islandic Volcano (don't ask me to spell the name !) spread its ashes all over northern Europe (and a bit of southern too)

This is probably my favorite. Not so much the image itself, but the awe and pure magnificence that I felt when I was there.
I remember driving all the way out to one of my favorite spots to sit and watch/shoot the sunset, and by time I got there the fog/clouds had rolled into the mountains and I was kind of bummed out that I didn't get a good sunset that day, it was just flat grey. So I stuck around for a few minutes just enjoying the fresh air, and was starting to leave when I saw a faint orange cloud pop open in the reflection of my car's window (as I was entering the car to leave!), I turned around to see the sky opening up, several layers of clouds above me, clouds below me, and clouds rolling over the crests of the peaks surrounding me!
It was the most enjoyable sunset I've ever seen, so much motion and change in a short span of time, I was just flabbergasted, and just stood there for probably a good 10-15 minutes, didn't even pull out my chair again to sit down. And I almost forgot take out my camera again to take pictures of it, I was so amazed, haha! I doubt I'll see a sunset as nice as that in a long time. It wasn't just the sunset itself, but how it changed and moved (strong winds coming from the ocean a few miles away)
This are after it was fully broken open (wish I would have taken some earlier!), this is once part of the sky, I didn't have a wide lens with me :-(
