"STRAITS QUAY"

Prior my business trip here in Sg, spent 2 weeks in Malaysia again for some work attachment. I had an opportunity to visit Penang, one of their islands, which is quite similar with that of our own Cebu. My colleagues from Kl said that the best food in Malaysia can be tasted in that place. Hmm, I’m not really into eating and pigging out but couldn’t help myself to try the different hawker selections they have there!:)

After work we often times hangout at this place called Straits Quay which is located in a reclaimed land 15min away from the hotels I’ve stayed in (G-Hotel/ Evergreen / Gourney). Palau Penang is just a quaint island but due to its resources, people and local government you’ll see how progressive it has become! Looking forward to visiting this place again soon!:)

Beautifull. May I ask what your setup was for this shot? I see motion blur, I believe, in the yachts. Did you bracket this shot or just a long exposure.

I love the reflections in the water, they make me feel as though I could pull a jesus and just walk across!

thanks jake. i believe this is composed with 3 exposures carefully layered using pscs5. The exposure basis was ISO 50 l 305s l f19 l k3200 then adjusted the exposure. Motion blur will will be seen with the objects in the water. :)

Karlo,

I miss boat pictures! Did you decide not to straighten the verticals?

Asher

thanks Asher! lens correction was enabled in this photo but didn't want to sacrifice the wideness of the scene. If i was using a tilt shift then this would be more lovely:)

Is there a way to partially use on of the exposures to get that region of the photo as sharp as the rest? Or would you lose the added DR of the bracketed shots of the yachts?

Karlo,

Just for folks who want to experiment, In Photoshop CS, where there's a regular pattern on a wall as found here, one can extend that pattern as much as you like, and also maintain perspective!

for you to get that portion sharp you need a fast shutterspeed hence you need to bump the iso higher. I tried several combinations but the problem is if you want to showcase it at 1280 resolution noise will be visible. in my preference i always want to process it at 1280x or more to appreciate the entire scene.

if the water is really still you can also achieve a sharp image. But that time it was pretty wavy:)

Hi Karlo,

Penang is one of the choice places for ex-pats to retire in Malaysia.

I love the place, but food wise---I prefer the open stalls in the various localised districts.

Nice pic of the Quay.

Regards.
