This was shot a couple of years ago while the palace was abandoned but not anymore.
Back in time, it was here that Jacqueline Kennedy spent some time after the assassination of her husband.
"...After his death, Abel Henri’s eldest son Roger Ernst Armand took on the property and continued to extend the invitation for European aristocracy and other significant friends —including President J.F. Kennedy’s sister-in-law Caroline Lee Radziwill — to use the house as a summer resort. What is not so commonly known is that after President J.F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, Casa da Comenda assumed another purpose, as a refuge for Jacqueline Kennedy and her children. In such a remote utopia far from Washington D.C., it was the perfect location for the Kennedys to retract quietly and safely during their grieving..."

These are an amazing documentary of a tragic decay of a mansion!
Why should a massively engineered building like that actually crumble?
it should last a hundred years if the roof keeps the rain out. So what happened?

We have been there 3 times while abandoned and every time the destruction was worst. The azulejos I have shot in 2014 were gone the next visit !
It is a long story which I hardly who the facts.
The palace was projected by the Portuguese Architect Raul Lino and later abandoned for many tears.
However, a few years ago, (perhaps 2 or 3) a business man bought it and renew it. After that visits are not possible.
It was supposed to be an hotel but we have never heard of it's destiny.

Heartbreaking, as you can see how beautiful it once was. By the ocean, also. It is tragic!
