My point was that "lower economic class" liberals don't seem to be the ones actually running for office. To be more clear, they seem to be the very RICH people only claiming to be of a lower economic class to garner votes...
--- IOW, I now get back to my original assertion that politicians, as a class, are a bunch of lying, cheating scumbags.
Best,
Jack,
First and foremost you are one of my admired photographers and I remember every one of your pictures! For politics, you are not some naive pushover. You have strong stances and these provide foil for debate. But really, are politicians, (as I myself have quipped merely politi (polite) chiens (fr. dogs), just corrupt? Sounds great, but that's not enough.
For all the easily recognized threads of truth in your statements, they come short on closer look. The great statesmen have still managed to forge a way by which we can potentially live together to promote common good. Their legislations allow free assembly, personal opinion and persuasion. You can carry a gun but I don't have to! One can pray to Jesus through Mary, another via Jesus, one in Greek, another in Latin and some not at all. Those politicians fought for all of that choice. Of course, some will line their pockets on the way. That's life with humans! Democracy is always a work in progress using the only materials and agents we have, imperfect people, like you and I, opinionated and feeling educated, privileged and rather competent.
So notwithstanding your reservations, I still think that politicians are sufficiently public-minded and responsive to us, that we eventually get on track. They do somehow cobble together solutions, (albeit with arm-twisting, shame, pay-offs, earmarked spending and other goodies). So ultimately they do get to address and hopefully balance our common needs and values, as diverse and contradictory as they
may appear.
