My World: This time it is China..

We are off soon for our first visit to China.

Restricting this visit to one or two places. Just to get a feel of the place, this time around.

After a few days together, my wife shall join a friend of hers and take the train trip to Tibet. Then a trek
To the Everest base camp.

I shall stay back at sensible altitudes, and where cars can go.

In my bag the Leica ME, the cron 28 asph, the lux 50 asph and the macro elmar-m 90. I just might throw in the tiny Zeiss 21/4.5.

My backup shall be the Fuji X-T1 with the Fujinon 35/1.4 and the Leica m-mount adapter.

The Leica travels again before my eyes give up for me to be able to use it.

The wife takes the Sony RX-100 and her iPhone.

Excited to say the least.

We were informed by our travel agent that due to the earthquake in Nepal, and being felt in Tibet, they might close it to visitors...for how long?

So I am making plans to include Ayesha in my leisurely travels...just in case.

Be safe!

A warning - look at the altitude of each location plus the pollution index. You must double the elevation for all practical purpose to get some estimate of breathing issues for those with cardio-respiratory problems.

I know I get short of breath in the Swiss Alps and there the air is clean as can be! So check up as the tourist offices won't always earn you. I advise anyone over 60 to take with a portable Oxygen tank, a very small one, so one has interim help while any help that's needed arrives.........but, of course, I worry to much and always look for the broken spokes!

Jerome, my personal plan was to visit the Hunan province. Specifically the Old ancient town of Feng Huang and the famous Tianzi Mountain reserve. It is said that the inspiration for the movie, Avatar, came from here. Many ethnic minority villages here. But some are accessible only by foot or bike and some distance away. So, that part is a maybe.

Of course the customary stays in Beijing..actually after my wife leaves for Tibet I shall be staying in one of the Hutong ( old/traditional; part..actually means alleys ) areas of Beijing. In an old Ming dynasty princes home..now an inn.

I am not going to Shanghai. Limiting myself to a selected places.

Then south again to Guangxi province...a touristy place but superb scenery, The picture on the 20 RMB
paper money note is located here. Being touristy most places are fairly accessible by golf carts, bikes, cars, river boats and river rafts.

cormorant fishing is and photography is a tourist trap..but what the heck.

Thanks Antonio. Let's see what I can manage. I might need to change equipment carried if I travel with my wife. The rides on bumpy roads with her is a challenge for RF to stay aligned

Thanks Asher for that important pieced of advice. Just one high altitude place.. The Tianzi mountain park. I shall enquire about altitude issues. up/down by cable car. Guess a few panting steps for some pics and down in a flash!!

Yes, we are going to Xian. Actually I am staying a little longer than usual here for something of interest to me.

Yes, we are going to Xian.

All this should be pretty enjoyable. I am told that Hunan province is indeed beautiful but Guilin in Guangxi is very nice as well. Lots of beautiful scenery there and very accessible. And in Xian, there is one of the oldest Mosque in China, but I am sure you already know that. Enjoy your trip!
