Trees & the Motif of "Sky"!

Re: Grass Tree

Asher, this Wikipedia article is quite good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthorrhoea

This particular specimen is in a local botanic garden and was saved from land clearing. It's one of the faster growing varieties and is about 200 years old. These trees are not very common in Melbourne where I live now but I grew up in Perth in the 60's and they were a very common bush plant there. Very large ones are still quite rare because they are easily damaged.

Here's one more tree of mine. This was taken at Pacific Rim National Park on Vancouver Island, Canada this past September.

Cheers,
David

It was last Saturday when we - my wife and myself - made our first flight on a baloon.
I show you here two pictures with two different "treatments".
One is quite natural while the other has an antique look which in fact, pleases me very much.
It was very early in the morning and there was some fog. Gradually, it disappeared as we were flying.
Thank you for watching :)

Apologies for the quality of the scan( from 35mm) but I quite like the tree.

White gum ( unidentified. Identifying eucalypts is difficult and fraught)

Andy,

Could you add a smaller jpg that's about 75% of the one you posted. This would allow me to see it with white space around it. I like to see the whole image in a context of white space, especially when important elements reach the edge.

Remarkable! Where is it with respect to your own location?

Just in time to help cool us off during the summer heat. A walkway at Mammoth Hot Springs last January. In addition it's the first image that I've ever sold! Pentax K20D and DA*16-50mm f/2.8.

Folks, in themes like this, it's easier for the eye when pictures are centered, otherwise the pictures shoot back and forth when scrolled. In themes comments are short and we have many more images. So It's an idea to give each one white space around it!

Like in a gallery!

I had a quick look around my hard drive for something to add to the thread in some way. I think it qualifies: trees and sky, with a hint of a yellow house

tracy that is a hard act to follow. What a beautifull exposure!

Thank you!

I like the composition below but feel it may have lost something due to the b&w conversion. The foreground tree doesn’t have a lot of pop to it, but the composition still invites the viewer to spend some time in this nice spot

I like the tree and the background and those billowing clouds. I also wonder about the conversion. In one the grass is very dark. In the other, perhaps it's too light. Still, both pictures seem to have a lot more potential. How do you process images to B&W?

It would be interesting for you to download a trial copy of Silver Efex Pro 2 by Nik software. You might get hooked.
