Visitor to my backyard..

I have 9 bird feeders in my yard and we now have a new visitor... a Coopers hawk has fed on about 6 Finches now and is hanging around a large Blue Spruce - that contains about a dozen nests.. He just waits on the fence, waiting for a 'Finch in Flight' and swoops in for the buffet..

I was able to get within about 15 feet before he took off - a few adjustments in Curves/Levels and applied a little Topaz Clean.. \

Rick Otto: Visitor to my backyard

I agree with John, I'm OK with the painterly look but still too heavy for me. I think it's would be a bit better (In the case of putting it on canvas and hang it in your house) that the visitors, watch it and asks themselves if it's really a painting or a photograph. The curiosity will make them stop by and think.

A fine portrait, Rick. Great detail.

As for the post-processing, I could go either way. You've disclosed how you treated it, which I tihnk is important, and the main thing is whether or not you (and your wife) like it, if it and works for its itended purpose.

It loooks like a nice photo, but the processing is too much for me. There again, if you look around, you could have worked that out!

Hope it makes a good print that you and your wife enjoy. My better half won't have the last bird I photographed on the wall!

Very nice. I couldn't figure out exactly what the look of the image was coming from, until I saw the detail of the digital brushstrokes on the fence. That gave it away. Try a second version without such a prominent digital texture on the fence. I think it will be even stronger.

I think everyones mentioned comments are right on.

For me I would have like to had the entire tail in the frame...but the situation may not have allowed for that.

Nice job!
