Also thank you for asking me to venture out to see more of the fence, because I found another angle that I have never thought to look at...

The lonely cumquat tree.

that’s my focus.

I haven’t seen a transformer up a pole in years. And wooden poles. Seems like I’m back in the 50’s growing up in suburban Sydney.

I'm glad I could evoke some childhood memories. I hope they were good memories.
I remember great times in the 50's growing up in Anaheim

Jim,

Your pictures are so much richer. I also love this tree and here I cropped to show that better!

I also like the better dynamic range as evidenced by the array of greys and brights in the sky. Underexposing is a good strategy as it preserves these wonderful clouds. It’s normally advised to “expose to the right” if one is looking at the histogram, (the graph of “exposure” versus “brightness values”), and shooting RAW.

However, if one is going to lose anything, I would rather give up perfect blacks than you lose the beautiful sky!

Look at the sky.

In RAW, you might recover the blown highlights.

..... or else next time, realize that the right half is dark and the Canon 5 D Camera is trying to expose for that area adequately so it delivers overexposure to the clouds! So consider under-exposing by at least 1/3 of a stop to be able to recover the lost detail in the clouds using RAW.

I think you might agree that the detail in the clouds is more noticeable that noise in the dark shade to the right!

Notice, BTE, the yellow flowers and the interesting pricing of the fence by the blossoming tree!

These are elements worthy of studying on their own.

I found a lot of things to shoot today. Also I have just past 1030 pictures in less than a month with the 50D.

This is a knothole with moss & fungus in the split-rail fence.

This has dynamic range demands perhaps beyond your camera. Ask Will Thompson, (the “Mavin” on Canon camera’s and their sensitivity to light), for guidance.

This “knothole” needs an assistant to reflect light into the hole, or use the builtvin flash!

But take this as a worthy challenge to shoot this perfectly. With Will’s direction you will learn a lot here.

Good luck!

Fabulous! Are you using horizontal or vertical camera orientation? Best of with vertical but you have Fido e a superb job.

Can you make a link to a larger version at least 400 pixels high?

Met a neighbor today. I really like his Rat Rod. His name is Mike but we didn't shake hands.

If you don't know about Rat Rods, they are great fun rides & go over really well at the car show.
Also the owners never worry about things like rain or if someone gets to close.

Superb!

I love this!

Tell us the “more” of this past-time. Great updates if parts!

But body work isn’t an essential
Part of the art?

For this fabulous creation you deserve the allowance to shake hands, even a hug!

.....but just from me suited up for hazmat biosafety with suit, N-99 mask, visor and my rabbits foot hidden in my pocket

Just wash your hands afterwards!

The 1940 Ford truck cab sits on a 1997 4 wheel-drive pickup frame/chassis so he has 4 wheel disc brakes & newer suspension. And since it is a mashup of different part, the DMV let him choose what year would go on the registration, so it says it's a 1940 Ford.

@Asher Kelman I wouldn't do that.
Social distancing is more than not shaking hands, it's also standing far enough away so as not to be contaminated by airborne transmission.
Social distancing is deliberately increasing the physical space between people to avoid spreading illness. Staying at least six feet away from other people lessens your chances of catching COVID-19.
Lessen is not stoping.

It's okay
I'm not hugging anyone or shaking anyone's hand right now... Maybe in 2021...
I'm sure Jim, my post was simply to prevent Asher not to encourage anyone (we listen to him, he's a great Dr, great Pr, and wonderful scientist!) to brave the danger of covid…

BTW, your pictures posted here of this Rat Rod are really a good material for shooting!
Next time you're around, search for unexpected or unexpected angles of view, get into the subject, dig it, dig it, and post the only few that you think anyone else but you should have frame like you… That's a real challenge, but that's what will make your pictures being images…
Good stuff! go on!

TNX for the encouragement & thought about angles...
I'll try that next time.

I tried to edit the sky & blur around but I'm not happy with it. But it is an interesting Rat Rod parked next to Mike's Rat Rod.
