My World: Walking Through the Cactus Garden!

I often return from a walk via the Cactus Garden by the North sidevof Santa Monic Boulevard which runs from West Hollywood, through Beverly Hills, Century City and Westwood on to Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean!

And sometimes I meet folk!

This time I had a flower picked from a church garden! I passed a person sitting on a stone wall, enjoying the view and she noticed the beautiful the iris in my hand.

So I offered it to her.

...and then went on my way!

It’s now cold in Bevetly Hills, California and Autum winds are trying to rip golden-brown autumn leaves defiantly clinging to the swaying trees. So, it’s no grand surprise that in the Cactus Garden, there are scant flowers blooming, except the hardiest!

I hope you can also find pictures of cactus to share with us here!

Anyone know what the function of hairs might be on cactus? Are they further evolved beyond spikes to allow plants to be eaten and seeds transported?

Hairs trap air and help to insulate cactus from cold. Also dew collects in the early morning and provides needed water!

The cacti flower and then the fruit grow. They are prickkeyvourside but the flesh interior is juicy and sweet.

In Israel the call them Sabras and that applies to native born Israelis too, for obvious reasons, LOL

I am constantly surprised by the flowers in this garden. Here are some flowering succulents!
