Welcome Karl Koch!

Greetings,

It is with great pleasure that I introduce Karl Koch, Managing Director from BasicColor in Germany to OPF.

Karl has extensive knowledge in Color Management, and is a genuinly pleasant chap to talk to in deed!

I just aquired his CaliCube

http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/reviews/photography/grey_card.html

and I probably will write a little about my experience with it on OPF.

Karl's Company also wrote the Profiler software for the NEC Spectraview series, which is different but somehow the European pendant of Spectraview 2, the latter being the brainchild of a single person in the US. (What happens with Spectraview 2 if he, God forbid, has an accident, no one knows!)

Please join me in welcoming Karl to the Fora.

Thanks for making the time Karl, grab a seat and make yourself a home. :)

well this is a long awaited delight, but at last, welcome Karl! We are very happy to have you in our ranks.
I must re-look at BasicColor, I'm sure there is a lot I need to know!

Feel free to introduce us to any software or testing equipment you might have. If it's in the wrong place, don't worry for a second as we'll move it!

Another welcome on board Mr Koch!

I have been using BasicColor for 2 years now to calibrate my Nec with an EyeOne display 2 and it's a good piece of software! I'll certainly learn a lot while reading you in OPF…
I'm sure a lot of us are now waiting for you to introduce yourself as Asher has already suggested…

Your website announce a lot of new stuff to come… please share news when you can!

Hi Karl,

Welcome to OPF. I've never heard about BasicColor before today. Having taken a look at your web site, I have downloaded the Display 4 trial to give it a run. So far it seems that it delivers decent results with my Spyder2. I normally use the ColorEyes Pro software which is quite good but it takes ages to calibrate just one monitor. Display 4 was much faster in comparison.

Looking forward to your contributions.

Cheers,

Welcome to sanity on the internet

On behalf of all forum members, may I welcome you to our forum Mr. Koch. Loss of sanity is the price
of internet forums. Thankfully, it is absent here!.

Amnesia, depression and other psychotic illnesses, borne of wanting to know and own almost anything
new is however a real threat.

I hope you enjoy our ramblings.

Btw, never heard of of your software..my ignorance!

BasicColor and SINAR

As some of you folks are on the Photokina, make sure you do drop by on the SINAR booth where you will find BasicColor as well....!

Thank you

thanks to all for the warm welcome and sorry for not replying earlier. I am definitely foreign matter in this forum since my photographic skills are amateur level.
Let me briefly introduce myself:
I am a mechanical engineer and I was involved in the design and manufacturing of a camera scanner that resulted in the first digital back for a 6x6 camera, the Rollei Digital ScanPack (nomen est omen, it was a scanning camera back that took 15 minutes for a "shot" – but it was 36 MPixel, not bad for the year 1990, is ist?).
I then sold pre-press equipment, drum scanners, image setters and the first color management systems until I found that color management required my full attention.
In 1998 I gave up all other activities and concentrated on color management only, distributing ColorBlind at first, and when the manufacturer of this excellent product went down the drain, I started development of basICColor software.
Today we have a full range of color management products, starting with the basICCaliCube that Georg mentioned, camera, monitor and printer profiling, dvice linking and workflow products.
So, I am open to all color related questions, but don´t expect photographic expertise ;-)

Cheers,
Karl

Hi Karl,

Welcome to OPF! We have been waiting but knowing you are busy, we're glad you finally made it! I have used an iteration of your program way back. I need to renew the acquaintance.

We love to support ideas that help the photographic community and educate us in the process. I'll have to go to your website now and catch up! Feel free to use your own images, however primitive you think they might be to show how your software can ease our color anxiety! We're open to such input. However for promoting anything commercial, that goes at the end in the creative and teaching services section (not buy and sell) and the post will usually be approved within an hour or so.

Feel free to email me on any idea (from the contact form at the front of OPF). I try to answer all mail promptly.

Asher
