It shall be fun, she said. Winter!! Ho! Ho! Ho! and all that. Festivities.
And I can also meet my mother!!, she added.

The airport was nice and cozy. late evening flight. Jet lag.

Arrived at her house. Nice fire. Went to sleep. The in-laws talk too much.

Morning. I asked where the road was!!

There is a nice wood a few steps away. Ok.

p1360884408-4.jpg

But where are the buildings?, I asked.
Behind the trees, they said.

I spotted something I recognized. Dates, I thought.

The strange animal stared at me, and ran away. Aliens, it must have thought.

Next time, I choose where I go.

Fahim,

So what's unusual? Looks like a typical Ryadh winter to me! LOL!!

Saudi Gazette: Snow!
In one of the rare occasions, Saudis enjoy the snowfall in Al-Baha city south-west of Riyadh,
Tuesday. Torrential rains pouring down on Al-Baha accompanied by gusty winds were accompanied by
snow capping the mountains and covering the valley areas and the forests of Al-Zaraeb and Khayrah. – AP

I wonder when was the last snow fall there?

Asher, thanks for stopping by.

Head about a 1000 clicks from Riyadh, roughly southwest, on the road to Makkah.

There is a very important, historically, and modern day city. Taif. Beautiful grapes, peaches, all kinds of
fruits. Cool in summer. Used to be very cold in winters. Climate has changed now.

Sharp turn south, from Taif; then eastish...250 Kim's is AlBaha. Continue and you are in the Asir Province. Mountains, valleys, clouds Inside the mountain villages. You shall be in Abha. Continue southeast for a considerable distance. You shall hit an international border.

The land of Sheba.

I do not remember the last time it snowed in Riyadh. Hail used to be common, but the city has grown a thousand fold. Temperature has gone up.

In the north..Turayf, near the Jordanian border gets very cold. Often snow.

Regards.

p.s I have deleted a portion of my original post. Thought it might get some feathers ruffled. Or as we used to say in college...get somebody's knickers in a twist. :)

We cannot allow anything getting in a twist. Can we now?

There is some advantages though; in letting her choose the destinations..

At least I get to walk on frozen water, millions of years old.
