Beautiful...
Do you have to dole these out so slowly? I'm an old guy and don't want to miss any ;-)
Love the Costa del Luna...(Coast of the Moon for those of you who don't know that the area is called Costa del Sol - Coast of the Sun) Muy Linda, Mi Amigo.
Nothing to do with red wine of course............I only had a severe Gout attack......
Hi Nicolas
hoping you' re better now...
and enjoying the holidays. Niice moods on that shot and you picket le bon moment, with the moon...
Any chances to see a sample with less bright pool, and shirt, off course? My eyes move from it to the moon and back, now.
Well I'm sure if Romain had been a nice looking women… your eyes may do a stop…My eyes move from it to the moon and back, now
you might wait a few days, just to make sure ;-)Hi Michael
yes getting better, almost ready to go back to work! LoL!
I'll see if I can work a lesser bright pool, but this was a really huge high dynamic range (more than 12 stops ;-)
Romana, is that her name? ;-)Well I'm sure if Romain had been a nice looking women… your eyes may do a stop…![]()
how can you tell? …I don't think the 1 Ds-3 has 12 f-stops... I might be wrong though
I'm tempted to write Fool moon
Some are getting exited at full moon so they become fool ;-)
Like This?Any chances to see a sample with less bright pool, and shirt, off course? My eyes move from it to the moon and back, now.
Sorry to hear you had a gout attack on Holiday!
I knew that you were not at the Costa del Sol. The Costa del Luna was my name for your photograph...a play on the Spanish Coast. I have been to the Costa Blanca on my last trip to Spain. It's very beautiful.
Hoops! I'll be carefull !

It looks even more dramatic… I like it… do you?
Thanks for asking!
My problem with this version is that the halos have become more prominent to the point that, for me, they have become a distraction.
As far as I remember having read, the 1Ds3 DR is about 9 stops… maybe Bart knows exactly?
Anyway they are ways to increase that DR…;-)
Nicolas
I see the halo as well, at the right side of Romain, between the pool and the sea.
It's probably the result of downsampling. Photoshop doesn't do that correctly.
Bart
Yes I know, but it does depend on a number of variables such as the ISO, exposure time, temperature, and one's definition of DR (I use the general engineering definition).
I measured under optimal normal conditions (ISO 100, short exposure times and 20 degrees Celcius) a DR of ~11.3 stops for a single exposure with the 1Ds3. The analysis can be found here. At ISO 400 the DR has dropped to 11 stops, at ISO 800 it drops to 10.4 stops, at ISO 1600 it's 9.6 stops. These number of stops are the maximum one could reach, but expect the least exposed areas to be relatively noisy.
Caveat, I based these findings on a sample of 1 camera, my own. I don't know if other units vary...
Of course there are possibilities to reduce noise levels even further, by stacking and e.g. averaging multiple exposures, or by creating variable exposure HDR files. One can also mimick higher DR by exposure blending and tonemapping techniques.
Bart
Yes, the sharpening halos. Large radius?
As the shot were done at 800 ISO, I may easily say that the scene DR was more than 12 stops (I even didn't catch it all - see the moon…)
