Managed to get this picture of a nice whitetail buck during a walk today. He was much more interested in girls than me. He has about 8 days to go for freedom (hunting season ends).

Hope he survives the winter! Standing there so friendly is not such a good strategy! In fact your quiet behavior might just make him more trusting! Not blaming you at all, but somehow, the animal should have more fear! I don't mind that a lion gets him, but a bullet seems a pity!

Actually this is the rutting season for whitetail here in Montana. It is a crazy time, the bucks throw all caution to the wind (or at least a lot of caution) and chase the girls. They hit it hot and heavy for a few weeks and then regain their senses..

It was a really cold and grey day - I wish the light would have been better -
