A Tomato Field

Thanks!

They're not covered. It took me awhile to figure out what they'd planted. The perspective makes it look like a grid of squares on the ground, it's really long raised furrows covered with what I assume is a plastic material of some kind. The vertical lines are the stakes the plants grow up, and the "dots" are the plants themselves.

As best I can tell they'd just finished planting the tomatoes not long before I took the picture.

Scott, is that done with the old timey Nikkor 135 f2.8 that everybody hated because it was not a very sharp lens?

Jim, I really don't know what the opinions of that lens are - or if it's the same one you're thinking about. I researched it awhile back and I'm sure it was made around 1974. It's a really simple lens, built-in metal hood, etc. I disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt it last year and have been amazed at how good it is.

Just FYI, here's another shot with the same lens (click on it for a larger image):

It isn't outstanding wide-open, but I'd guess 90% or more of my aerial images I shoot with it are at f5.6. It does exhibit some CA in the conditions you'd expect (light reflected off water, etc), but Nikon NX2 software wipes the CA out almost completely.

Hi,

It is the best and most original picture i have seen for a long time !
Makes me think a little about Andreas Gursky...
Very well done and very strong graphical effect.

Regards,

Cedric.
