LOL. I’m the photographer. Standing on solid ground. The old shipyard in the Netherlands, provides a great backdrop, and wonderful reflections. I waited patiently until boat passed under the bridge and positioned nicely compositionally. I took half a dozen shots where the captain was looking the other way - and managed this one where he quickly turned in my direction for a moment.

I have heard of folk touring, managing the locks and everything themselves and others on a luxury boat with a chef!

I’m sure that is the case.
Anne & I were travelling constantly, hitting a different town almost every day. So we had a quite strict regiment of experiencing and photographing two or three features in each place (that we had researched and selected for our agenda over the months leading up to our trip) —— either early in the morning before checkout from our room - or in the afternoon/evening after checking in —- driving or travelling to a different location during the middle of each day.
At any rate, the only time we sat back and chilled for any length of time during the three weeks in Netherlands, UK and Belgium, was on the odd evening where we ate out. Between us we now have the huge task of culling through 9,000 images from our cameras and phones, to put together a nice big thick Blurb coffee table book to house our memories.

Great capture of the moment the captain turned towards you,@Robert Watcher! Great tip on finding a great backdrop and waiting patiently for boats to pass under the bridge. I’ve visited the Netherlands but I've never been to Venice yet. I intend to visit Venice and Florence next year after reading this article https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-florence-statistics-2023-the-ultimate-guide-5219. I would greatly appreciate suggestions on scenic spots like this in Venice, @Asher Kelman

Let me think about it.
The most important thing to remember is firstly find an inexpensive hotel and next have a lightly packed suitcase as when the water taxi or vaporetta, (water bus), drops you off on dry land,
you have to carry that case and drag it up and down steps and bridges over canals to get to your hotel. So map this put first.
Lower price hotels might still have a tiny elevator but all you need is a good bed and a tiny room.
Walking around you will have to stay away from large tours following tour guides with a pool and flag.
There are many notices for music performances in churches and other halls and lots of galleries. That you can find out before you arrive in the country.
You can go by train to visit Tuscany or Rome.

This is fantastic advice, Asher! Planning my first trip to Venice and those logistics about luggage and navigating the city are super helpful. Glad to know Tuscany and Rome can easily be reached by train. Those hidden music performances sound intriguing too!
