Green waters of the Puget Sound

So, I was out on a ferry in the Sound today when I noticed that the water was a phenomenal greenish shade. There isn't much of a subject to this shot other than the color itself...I'm curious to know if this sort of shot works for anyone else; or if it's just me :) Note: No color balance/correction was applied here except default bright/contrast and sharpening applied by Lightroom (based on the camera profile).

I hope it's not just me that likes this one, though! :)

I think it's one of those "had to have been there" photos, in order to really appreciate it. In other words, doesn't do much for me.

Hi Doug,

Perhaps. But maybe also one has to work more in post. Looking at the water, is one thing, getting that one moment may not be enough. It could be that the "feelings" need to be worked in afterwards. That's the challenge.

Eric, please forgive my audacity in cropping your image, but I was looking at it some more. This (see inset) was what captured my fancy in this image. I was wondering if you thought about really going narrow and focusing on one aspect of the scene?

Apologies in advance for taking liberties with your image but I was afraid I couldn't verbalize what I meant.

Thanks All :) and it's just fine, Rachel. One of the fun and fascinating things to me about photography is being shown what others "see" in a similar situation.

I think you picked out the most prevalent 'action' in the overall scene with your edit there; that's nice. For me, it's more the overall color/contrast that grabbed my attention when I took this. Like pattern recognition moreso than a specific object or subject.

Thanks for sharing that!

Asher, that's an interesting way of looking at the entire PP aspect of the photograph; I hadn't really considered that part of it before. But you're right...part of what frequently gets done during the processing phase is adjusting those little things to highlight what drew us to the photo in the first place. Of course, there *is* also the personal preference component. If Doug doesn't like water (just an example, not saying he doesn't), for example, then there isn't really anything any of us would be able to do to "fix" or present a water photo for him.

Doug, thanks for your comments too. That's why I was curious to see what others said; it's frequently just as useful to hear differing opinions in order to evaluate your own. :)
