I am so saddened since Wish You Were Here (the album) and Shine on You Crazy Diamond (the number he co-wrote) are amongst my all time favourites.

As a coincidence, I was playing it yesterday in my car on my way to work and back, twice.

According to folk-lore, the band shared a house together. One Sunday morning Syd announced that he was "popping down the shop for some f*gs", and never came back.
I suspect the truth is somewhat more complicated.

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written by Roger Waters, Richard Wright and David Gilmour and recorded on the 1975 album Wish You Were Here. Syd was the Crazy Diamond.

He spent the rest of his life as a recluse, living with his sister Rosemary in Cambridge. Apparently he developed an interest in gardening (although perhaps we shouldn't ask what he grew ).
