They will bite to defend themselves. They can also launch small hairs that are dangerous if they get in your eyes. Verey sorry to hear your son was bitten. I was too. He will have a lifetime scar.

Just a note, the toxin is thermolabile as is with mosquito bite injected proteins.

All heating applicators work, but this is inexpensive and very efficient. Even a spoon heated under the hot water tap is effective!

With heat, insect and spider venom is destroyed in 10 seconds.

When I was bitten in the eighties I didn't realise it at first as there was no pain but did note a sensation of nausea. When I realized something was wrong and went to my doctor she said there is really no treatment for this other than treating it like a burn. Necrosis occured around the bite area leaving a lifetime scar.
