This picture really sums up the lone mask wearer well!

I always wonder about such folk: shut off from others, afraid of imaginary bugs or what?

Mask prevent surgeons coughing phlegm into surgical wounds, protecting the patient.

….but hardly ever protect the wearer from harm, l except coming from being identified in a robbery perhaps!!

We have learned during the last epidemics that mascs provide some protection against infections. Some people, in particular the ones with reduced immunity, believe they can help them in particular during the flue season. Other people, particularly in Asia, wear a mask as public service when they suspect they may be contagious to others. I am not going to judge mask wearers, I do not know the particulars of the situation.
