This picture really sums up the lone mask wearer well!

I always wonder about such folk: shut off from others, afraid of imaginary bugs or what?

Mask prevent surgeons coughing phlegm into surgical wounds, protecting the patient.

….but hardly ever protect the wearer from harm, l except coming from being identified in a robbery perhaps!!

We have learned during the last epidemics that mascs provide some protection against infections. Some people, in particular the ones with reduced immunity, believe they can help them in particular during the flue season. Other people, particularly in Asia, wear a mask as public service when they suspect they may be contagious to others. I am not going to judge mask wearers, I do not know the particulars of the situation.

Wise answer, Jérôme!

I appreciate being corrected so courteously!

Thanks,

Yes some still wear them for various reasons.I would suggest the large majority do not follow proper procedures of donning and doffing for use and reuse of mask. Therefore becoming unhealthy to the wearer because of germs and contamination.

  • N95 Respirators: These are the most protective option when properly fit-tested, as they are designed to block at least 95% of very small particles (0.3 micrometers). They provide better protection to the wearer than other masks.
  • Surgical/Medical Masks: These are effective at blocking large-particle droplets and help reduce the wearer's exposure to others' respiratory secretions. They are less effective at filtering very small airborne particles due to their loose fit around the face.
  • Cloth Masks: The effectiveness of cloth masks varies widely depending on the fabric type, weave, and number of layers. While better than wearing no mask, they generally offer lower protection compared to surgical or N95 masks.
