The Himalayas, the Karakoram, and the Hindu Kush.

No mountain peak depicted is less than 5000 meters. Not far away, there were some military incidents reported between the PRC and India.

One of the Old Silk Routes traverses this geographical location...

They are stunning images. I'm just trying to imagine crossing those ice/snow formations at the bottom of the second photo. Looks nigh on impossible.

The tribes there are used to the rocks and the harsh weather and plan accordingly. In addition to trade caravan routes through known mountain passes, there are countless tracks and trails are known intimately By the locals. What seems impassable to an outsider, is for sure a challenge and dangerous, but the local folk are Self-reliant, smart and hardy and not TV couch potatoes like us, LOL!

To the tribes in the area, it’s their ‘hood, so to speak

The land is awesome and harsh but a very great protector of those who make it home!

Peter, Asher thank you for the comments.

About 500 clicks by plane or 1000 kms trekking south west one would find themselves in Peshawar. And just a short trek away lies the Khyber Pass.
Well known and written about 'adventures' of the British by Rudyard Kipling. If one does not learn from history, one is bound to make the same mistakes repeatedly. And come up with the same result.

As you say Asher ' The land is awesome and harsh but a very great protector of those who make it home! '... Could not agree with you more.

Primitive? Such have served their purpose for millennia.

But the harsh beauty is breathtaking, if one gets used to the altitudes...
